100th Birthday of the 2nd Infantry Division

The 2nd Indianhead Division Association (2IDA) veterans organization is celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the formation of the US Army’s famed 2nd Infantry Division in Bourmont, France in 1917 during the first World War.  The association will pay tribute to the hundreds of thousands of veterans who have served in the division over the years. The event is at the Sheraton Pentagon City Hotel, Arlington, VA on 13-16 September 2017.  The 2IDA is planning tours, dinners, a banquet, and a re-dedication ceremony at the 2nd Division Memorial on Constitution Avenue near the White House in Washington, DC.

The 2nd Indianhead Division Scholarship and Memorial Charitable Foundation [IRS 501(c)(3) #47-24342777] is soliciting funds to support this grand celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the 2nd Division.  Funds raised here will be used to pay for tours, dinners, banquets and hotel subsidies for 2nd Infantry Division Veterans.  Many of our 300-400 guests will travel on a once in a lifetime trip to Washington DC for this event.  These men and women served in WWII, the Korean War, on the Korean DMZ, in Iraq and Afghanistan.  Our WWII and Korean War vets are aging fast and this celebration will allow them to be honored as the heroes they are.  These funds will help the association defray the cost of this trip for division veterans of World War II, Korean War, the Korean DMZ, the Cold War, Afghanistan, and Iraq to celebrate this momentous event.

The 2nd Infantry Division (2nd ID) fought with distinction in every war since 1917; World War I, World War II, Korea, Iraq and Afghanistan.  The notable exception in the war-fighting was the 2nd ID absence in Vietnam.  In 1965, the 2nd ID returned to Korea and has been forward deployed with the important mission of helping to secure Freedom’s Frontier, the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) between the Republic of Korea in the south and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea in the north.

All contributions are tax deductible.  Please make your contribution early so we can make all the necessary arrangements.  All members of the 2IDA are grateful for your help in making this event possible.  Your contribution will go a long way to say to these men and women… Thank you for your Service!

  1. I was there also pulling patrols in 40 below 0 weather, when we got a break from patrols we would be on the op dort pulling guard duty some times pulling a mad minute. I used a 40 mm gernade lanucher on patrols.op dort was the last american sector and then it was the roc soldiers.they were some tough dudes and good people. I was 18 years old when i was there. We pulled patrols on the dmz for 4 days and nights. Then we went to camp wally for 2 days to wash and party at the em club. Camp wally was north of the imjin river. We received hostile firepay it was $65.00 a month to get shot at. We went to the village to meet the girls, that was part of our 2 days off. I was 18 years old so was enjoying myself. Everything was $2.00 in the village 2 hours at the last chance hotel,$2.00 for a lady, and $2.00 for about 12 ounce,s of local weed.like i said i was 18 years old and enjoying life for 2 days then back to the zone earning that $65.00.
