This month marks the 66th anniversary of the Chipyong-ni battle fought by the 23rd Regimental Combat Team of the 2nd Infantry Division. “In two nights, a single regimental combat team of 4,000 men had locked in battle with nine Chinese divisions of 90,000 men and destroyed them,” 2ID Korean War veteran T.R. Fehrenbach wrote in his book, “Crossroads in Korea: The Historic Siege of Chipyong-Ni,” on page 90. A ceremony will be held at the headquarters of the 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington at 11 a.m. on 2/15/2017.
